The closest other California metro area in the number of new hotels was Los Angeles County, in which four new hotels have opened since January with a total of 505 rooms. Since January, five hotels with a total of 860 rooms have opened in San Diego, with more on the way. The county also had the biggest new hotel in the state to open in the first half of the year - the 302-room Sycuan Casino Resort in East County. San Diego County led the record-breaking pace, according to a report by Atlas Hospitality Group. More hotels were built in California in the first six months of 2019 than ever before.
